August 28, 2013

CORPUS CHRISTI - Five 2013 Hooks are on Arizona Fall League rosters released Tuesday by Major League Baseball.

Third baseman Jonathan Meyer, right-handed pitchers Jonas Dufek, Matt Heidenreich and Andrew Robinson and lefty Alex Sogard will suit up for the Peoria Javelinas. Corpus Christi athletic trainer Bryan Baca has been assigned to Peoria as well.

Infielders Japhet Amador and Nolan Fontana and Quad Cities pitching coach Dave Borkowski also represent the Astros organization. Houston prospects will team with players from the Mariners, Padres, Phillies and Royals organization to complete the Javelinas roster.

Meyer is hitting .261 with 15 homers and 68 RBIs in addition to belting three walk-off hits, two of which left the ballpark. He leads all league qualifiers at third base with a .958 fielding percentage, 384 total chances, 290 assists and 28 double plays.

The Astros promoted Dufek from High-A Lancaster to Corpus Christi July 25 and since the call he has allowed just one run in 11 appearances covering 16.1 innings. In 36 games with the JetHawks, he went 2-2 with a 4.28 earned run average.

Heidenreich came off the disabled list Monday and has yet to reappear for the Hooks. He started the season with Corpus Christi and went 4-4 with a 7.61 ERA in 23 games, including six starts.

Robinson is the only season-long member of Corpus Christi's bullpen. The 25-year-old right-hander is 5-2 with a 3.30 ERA and three saves. He has walked 14 and struck out 37 over 46.1 innings.

Sogard began the season with the Hooks and returned August 8 after a stay at Oklahoma City, where he posted a 9.39 earned run average in 22 appearances. He's been better with Corpus Christi, allowing eight earned runs in 22.1 innings for a 3.22 ERA.

Baca is in his seventh season with the Astros organization and his first at Corpus Christi. He came to the Hooks after a two-year stay at Lancaster.
