Former Hooks starting pitcher David Martinez has been named the Topps Texas League Player of the Year, Minor League Baseball announced Monday.

Martinez, who was one of 14 Corpus Christi alums to make his big league debut in 2013, went 14-2 with a 2.02 ERA in 26 appearances and 18 starts for the Hooks.

The 26-year-old from Venezuela set the franchise single-season record for ERA, WHIP (1.00) and batting average against (.233).

Martinez struck out 86 against 20 walks in 129.1 innings while authoring two complete games.

The Texas League Pitcher of the Year paced the circuit in ERA, victories and WHIP, while placing third in opponents' batting average.

Martinez, who won his first nine decisions with Corpus Christi, suffered his first loss on June 15 at Frisco after yielding one run on three hits in five innings. He featured a 1.83 ERA in nine second-half outings leading up to a Triple-A promotion on August 8.

The right-hander made three starts for Oklahoma City before finishing the season in Houston's bullpen.
