Miscues Mire Hooks

FRISCO - The RoughRiders scored two of their three runs on a trio of Corpus Christi errors Sunday night as Frisco forced a split of the four-game series with a 3-2 decision at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

Ironically, the game began with a pair of Hooks defensive gems. David Rollins issued a lead-off walk to Chris Grayson and Guilder Rodriguez snuck a single thru the left side. Odubel Herrera then hit a liner into left field. Ruben Sosa charged the ball and fired a strike to catcher Rene Garcia, nailing Grayson at the plate. Rodriguez made it to third on the play. Trever Adams was next and sent a fly ball to right. Andrew Aplin made the catch and gunned down a tagging Rodriguez at the dish.

The Hooks struck first offensively as well, plating a run against Alex Claudio in the third. Carlos Perdomo reached on an infield single to open the frame. Tony Kemp worked a walk and Ruben Sosa lined a base hit into center field, loading the bases with one out. Delino DeShields, Jr., cashed in the run with a sac fly to left field.

Rollins settled in but ran into an uprising in the fourth. With one away, Herrera notched the second of his three hits. Adams then smoked a double to the gap in right-center to tie the game.

Corpus Christi answered promptly. DeShields' two-out triple into the left-field corner plated Kemp from second base, handing the Hooks a 2-1 lead in the fifth.

Rollins retired the Riders in order in the home half before exiting the game. The Dallas lefty allowed four hits and one walk while striking out three.

Mike Hauschild entered for Corpus Christi and faced immediate adversity. One-out singles by Rodriguez and Herrera put two on base for Adams, who rolled a grounder to third base. Jonathan Meyer failed to glove the ball, allowing all three runners to advance safely. Hauschild fought back by fanning Joey Gallo for the second out. J.T. Wise then hit a soft ground ball to the right side. Telvin Nash, playing well off first base, was in position to make a play but the ball kicked off his glove as Rodriguez crossed home plate to level the score.

Frisco applied more pressure in the seventh. Leading off, Hanser Alberto pushed a single past a diving Kemp at second base and into centerfield. Hauschild moved him to third thanks to an errant pickoff attempt. Jake Skole hit a sharp ground ball thru the drawn-in infield for a 3-2 Frisco advantage.

Corpus Christi wasted a golden chance to even the score in the eighth. DeShields opened with a walk from Francisco Mendoza. He promptly stole second and raced to third when Wise's throw sailed into center field. Mendoza fanned Meyer before being lifted in favor of southpaw Will Lamb. Aplin, batting from the left side, stuck out looking. Nash worked a four-pitch free pass but Rene Garcia grounded out to third to end the threat.

Corpus Christi managed one hit past the fifth and went 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position, stranding nine on base.

The Hooks head to the Alamo City for a three-game series against the Missions. First pitch is 7:05 for Monday's series opener at Wolff Stadium.
