Hops Top 25, #21: Eckels Wins Fifth Straight Start
From August 19th: Hops nip Spokane in key game in race
The Hillsboro Hops were three games out of first place in the South Division entering play at Spokane on August 19th.
Ben Eckels, a 19-year-old righthander from Davis, Calif., had spent the entire year in the Hops' rotation, and was closing strong; Eckels had won four straight starts.
With just 14 games remaining, the Hops were looking for their eighth win in 12 games.
