Two Hops Named to Year-End NWL All-Star Team
Northwest League President Mike Ellis released the 2016 NWL Year-End All-Star Team on Monday. Two Hillsboro Hops made the team.
Hops LHP Anfernee Benitez was one of five pitchers named to the team. On the 2016 season, Benitez went 7-5 with a 3.48 ERA in 14 appearances (12 starts). He finished fourth in the league in innings pitched (72.1), third in the league in strikeouts (71), and led the league in wins (7).
Hops catcher Luke Lowery was also named to the team. Through September 4, Lowery held a .265 batting average with 5 home runs and 32 runs batted in. He has also stolen 19 bases, good for fifth in the NWL. He finished second in the league in caught stealing percentage, throwing out 37.8% of attempted base-stealers (17-45).
