Bowling Green, KY - Continuing the best promotion in minor league baseball, the Bowling Green Bootleggers beat the Peoria Chiefs by a score of 8-7 in 11 innings on Saturday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.
In a game that had five lead changes and took 4:16 to complete, the Bootleggers scored first in the first inning on a RBI double by outfielder Jesus Sanchez to take an early lead.
After the Chiefs scored four unanswered runs from the top of the second to the top of the fourth innings, Bowling Green got a two-run single from outfielder Joshua Lowe in the bottom of the fourth to cut their deficit to one.
One inning later, a RBI single from first basemen Bobby Melley and a RBI triple from outfielder Eleardo Cabrera gave the Bootleggers back the lead.
Following a run in the top of the sixth from Peoria and two more runs in the top of the ninth, Bowling Green found themselves trailing 7-5 as they went to the bottom of the ninth.
Against Chiefs closer Eric Carter, Sanchez led off the inning with a single and scored as catcher Jonah Heim tied the game with a two-run blast over the right-field bullpen.
For Heim, it was his ninth homer of the year and second to help the Bootleggers tie or go ahead in the ninth inning or later over the last month.
The game stayed tied until the eleventh inning when Melley drew and walk and then scored on a walkoff double by infielder Miles Mastrobuoni to end the game.
For Bowling Green, it was their second walkoff win of the season.
Offensively, the Bootleggers churned out 21 hits, their second-most this season and the fourth-most in franchise history.
Mastrobuoni helped pace the Hot Rods offense with four hits and two doubles while Lowe had the first four-hit game of his career.
The game was the second-longest of the season from a time perspective.
With the win, Bowling Green is now 10-1 in their last eleven games in Southcentral Kentucky. They are also two games over .500 for the first time since April 26.
The Hot Rods will try to continue their winning ways at Bowling Green Ballpark with game two of a three-game set against the Peoria Chiefs on Sunday afternoon.
Bowling Green will send righty Adrian Navas the mound while the Chiefs will counter with a pitcher that is still to be determined.
