Hot Rods End Regular Season With Blowout Win

Bowling Green sets franchise-record for wins and runs scored
September 6, 2016

Bowling Green, KY - In their final game of the 2016 regular season, the Bowling Green Hot Rods scored eight runs in the second inning to beat the Fort Wayne TinCaps by a score of 13-2 on Monday afternoon at Bowling Green Ballpark.

Coming off a four-hour, eleven-inning win the following night, the Hot Rods took the intrigue out of the game in the second inning with eight runs on eight hits, primarily against Fort Wayne starter and Padres #1 draft pick Cal Quantrill (L, 0-1).

Against Quantrill and reliever Blake Rogers, the Hot Rods sent 11 batters to the plate and were led by a pair of three-run homers from first basemen Kewby Meyer and outfielder Landon Cray. The blast for Cray was his first of the season while Meyer hit his second homer of the series and ending the day a triple-shy of the cycle.

Offensively, Bowling Green added two more runs in the third inning and three runs in the fourth inning to roll to a victory. They tied a season-high with 18 hits, as Meyer, shortstop Jake Cronenworth and outfielder Manny Sanchez led the way with three hits apiece.

In three games since returning to the Hot Rods from the Charlotte Stone Crabs (High-A), Cronenworth is 7-for-13 at the plate with three walks, three runs scored and two runs batted in.

On the mound, Roel Ramirez (W, 7-8) earned his third straight win in as many starts by giving up one run in 6.1 innings pitched. Righties Reece Karalus and Tim Ingram tossed 1.1 innings each to end the game, giving up a run between them.

With the win, the Hot Rods increased their franchise-record win total to 84 games while doing the same to their team-record in runs scored finishing with 711. They scored ten or more runs in fifteen games this season, scoring 13 or more runs five of those times.

The Hot Rods have also set season records for runs scored and road victories.

Bowling Green will continue their season with a return to the Midwest League Playoffs for the first time since 2013 on Wednesday. They will travel to Midland, MI to play the first game of a best-of-three series against the Great Lakes Loons.

First pitch at Dow Diamond is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The game will be played in the eastern time zone.

The Hot Rods will return to Bowling Green Ballpark to play game two of the series and a possible series-deciding game three on Thursday and Friday. Both of those games will be played at 6:35 local time.
