Bowling Green, KY - After winning in front of a sellout crowd on July 4, the Bowling Green Hot Rods rode that momentum to a 6-5 win over the Dayton Dragons on Wednesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.
Unlike the previous three games where the pitching staff did most of the damage, the Hot Rods offense broke out to an early lead on Wednesday.
After a RBI double from catcher Danny De La Calle put Bowling Green on the board in the second inning, a RBI triple by shortstop Lucius Fox and a RBI single from outfielder Joshua Lowe got rid of an early one-run deficit for the Hot Rods and put them up 3-2.
One inning later, a RBI single from De La Calle and a two-run single by Fox pushed the Hot Rods lead to four runs.
Overall, Fox drove in three runs for the night and joined De La Calle and Lowe with two hits apiece.
In the eighth inning, the Dragons mounted a comeback of their own, scoring three runs against Hot Rods reliever Peter Bayer in his third inning of work to cut their deficit to one run.
Fortunately for Bowling Green, the deficit stayed there as Joe Serrapica (S, 1) notched his first save of the year in a scoreless ninth inning.
In addition to Bayer and Serrapica on the mound, starter Greg Maisto (W, 1-0) earned his first win in a Hot Rods uniform by giving up two runs over five innings of work.
With the outing from Maisto, the Hot Rods starting rotation has given up just four runs in the last 26 innings over a four-game stretch.
Bowling Green has now won four straight games, tying a season-long win streak. They improved their home record against Dayton to 4-1 and are now at .500 (7-7) in the second half.
The Hot Rods will try to continue their winning ways on Thursday in Southcentral Kentucky with the last of three games against the Dayton Dragons. Bowling Green will try for their first series sweep at home this year.
Bowling Green will send a pitcher that has yet to be determined to the mound while the Dragons will counter with righty Tony Santillan.
First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 PM.
