Three Schools Announced as Reading Challenge Winners
"Service One Credit Union is proud to support education and literacy in our schools and membership through the sponsorship of Axle Bear's Book Buddies," said Lori Hodges of Service One Credit Union. "By encouraging children to read, we are taking steps to ensure the future of the community."
Axle Bear's Book Buddies is an annual scholastic program that rewards students that meet certain reading challenges with two tickets to a Hot Rods game. During the offseason, Hot Rods staff members and mascots travel to area Elementary and Middle Schools, promoting the benefits of reading, and students are given bookmarks to track their reading goals.
In 2012, approximately 20,000 Axle Bear's Book Buddies bookmarks were dispersed to students in communities across South Central Kentucky and Northern Middle Tennessee. Caneyville Elementary in Grayson County brought the highest percentage of students that completed the reading challenge to Bowling Green Ballpark and is rewarded with the $1,500 grand prize.
The 2013 Axle Bear's Book Buddies Reading Challenge is underway with more than 20 area schools already signed up. The school with the highest percentage of participation will again win $1,500 with second and third place winning $500 each. The 2013 Reading Program Nights at Bowling Green Ballpark will be held April 14, April 26, and May 9. Schools that are interested in participating in the 2013 Axle Bear's Book Buddies Reading Challenge, presented by Service One Credit Union, can contact the Hot Rods Front Office at (270) 901-2121.
The fifth season of Hot Rods baseball in Bowling Green begins with Citizens First Opening Night on Monday, April 8 at 7:05 PM against the Lansing Lugnuts (Future Blue Jays). To order your tickets, visit BGHotRods.com or call (270) 901-2121.
