BLUE ROCKS THROW FIVE-HIT SHUTOUT, BEAT GADES

Evan Lee scattered three hits over six innings and two other relievers helped combine on a five-hitter as the Wilmington Blue Rocks topped the Renegades, 5-0, on Wednesday night.

Lee (1-2) struck out nine before Francys Peguero took over. Peguero threw two innings of hitless baseball before Reid Schaller allowed two hits in the ninth to complete the effort.

The most serious threat for Hudson Valley came in the top of the ninth with the Renegades already down by seven. Anthony Volpe led off with a single, followed by a walk to Ezequiel Duran and a single by Anthony Seigler. Jake Sanford flew out to shallow center and James Nelson hit into a double play to end the game.

A close game that was 2-0 through seven innings was blown open in the eighth as Wilmington scored five times, including four on an Omar Meregildo grand slam.

Reid Anderson (0-2) took the loss, allowing one run over 5.2 innings.

The teams resume the six-game series tomorrow night.
