Wilmington, Del. (Sept. 6, 2022) – The Hudson Valley Renegades dropped their series opener to the Wilmington Blue Rocks 5-3 on Tuesday night at Frawley Stadium.

Wilmington struck in the bottom of the first inning when Leandro Emiliani drove in Cody Wilson with a single off Blas Castaño to give the Blue Rocks a 1-0 lead.

The Renegades answered back with three runs off Lucas Knowles (8-1) in the top of the second. T.J. Rumfield led off the frame with a solo home run to right, his fourth long ball of the season. Two batters later, Spencer Henson walked and scored on an Eduardo Torrealba RBI single. Anthony Seigler scored Aldenis Sanchez with a single right after to grow the lead to 3-1.

The Blue Rocks responded with a run in the bottom of the third when Cody Wilson scored on a throwing error while trying to steal third base to cut the deficit to 3-2. They took the lead for good in the fifth on a three-run home run by Onix Vega.

Castaño (5-8) was tagged for five runs (four earned) on five hits in 5.0 innings, striking out two and walking five. His ERA rose to 3.49, the best of any qualified pitcher in the South Atlantic League.

Hudson Valley mounted a threat in the top of the eighth, putting runners on first and second with no outs, but Amos Willingham was able to escape the jam without a run. He returned to set the Gades down in the ninth to earn his second save.

Nelson Alvarez and Wellington Diaz worked through some traffic on the bases to combine for three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Seigler led the way offensively with a three-hit game.

With the loss, the Renegades are now 1.0 game out of first place pending the result of the Brooklyn Cyclones game tonight in Winston-Salem.

The Renegades continue their series with the Blue Rocks on Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Hudson Valley sends RHP Richard Fitts (3-0, 0.68 ERA) to the bump, while Wilmington counters with LHP Mitchell Parker (6-4, 3.00 ERA).
