'Gades Sweep-Off 'Clones

WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY-For the third consecutive night, the Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Brooklyn Cyclones in walk-off fashion. This time it was leftfielder Bryce Brown grounding a one-out single into centerfield to score the game-winner from second in a 5-4 win from Dutchess Stadium. The win gave the Renegades a three-game sweep of the Cyclones.
Brooklyn, for the third game in a row, drew first blood with a two-run fourth inning. With one out and leftfielder Wagner Lagrange on first following a single, centerfielder Anthony Dirocie roped a triple into left-centerfield to put the Cyclones on the board. Dirocie scored when the next hitter, first-baseman Brian Sharp, reached on a fielding error from Hudson Valley first-baseman Jacson McGowan. Sharp was credited with an RBI and the Cyclones owned a 2-0 lead.
But the Renegades came storming back with a four-spot in the bottom-half. Centerfielder Tanner Dodson started the inning with a walk, went to second on a stolen base, then third on a wild pitch before scoring on a one-out RBI single to left by catcher Chris Betts. Following the single, a double and walk loaded the bases when third-baseman Adrian Rondon ripped a double down the leftfield line to clear the bases and give Hudson Valley a 4-2 lead. It gave Rondon five RBI for the series.
Things stayed that way until the ninth when it was Brooklyn who would get off the deck to tie the game. Back-to-back singles started the inning before leftfielder Wagner Lagrange lined an RBI single to center. The ball kicked off the leg of Dodson and caromed into left-centerfield for an error. One run scored, and the other went to third on the play to pull the Cyclones to within one with runners at the corners and nobody out. After a strikeout, Sharp stood in and sent a sacrifice fly into leftfield to tie the game at four.
However in the bottom-of-the-ninth, Rondon lined a one-out single into left before taking second on a wild pitch. That set the stage for Brown who grounded a single back through the box to end the game.
Getting the win for Hudson Valley was reliever B.J. Myers (4-0) who allowed two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out a batter in his lone inning of work. It was his second win of the series. Taking the loss for Brooklyn was relief man Ronald Sanchez who allowed the game-winning run on two hits in 0.1 innings.
Each team had eight hits. Hudson Valley got a 2-4 effort from Rondon who drove in three runs with his double and scored the game-winning run. He finished with five RBI for the series. McGowan chipped in by going 2-4 with a double and run as well. Brooklyn got two singles and a run from Rasquin, while Lagrange finished 2-4 with a run, stolen base and RBI.
The Renegades now head up the road for a three-games series against the Tri-City ValleyCats beginning tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. Southpaw Blake Pflughaupt (2-2, 3.08 ERA) will take the hill for Hudson Valley against righty Devin Conn (0-0, 1.64 ERA) for Tri-City.
Hudson Valley returns home on Saturday when they kickoff a two-game series and homestand against the Aberdeen Ironbirds.
