WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 23, 2022) – Led by a strong pitching performance from Blas Castaño, the Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Winston-Salem Dash 6-1 on Thursday night at Truist Stadium. The game was the final contest of the first half of the South Atlantic League season.

Castaño (2-5) allowed just one unearned run in 7.0 innings of work, scattering four hits and walking one while striking out four. It was the first time in his career that Castaño completed seven innings.

Hudson Valley took the lead in the top of the fifth against Cristian Mena (0-1) when Anthony Seigler and Trey Sweeney drew back-to-back walks to start the frame before executing a double steal of third and second, respectively. Eric Wagaman lifted a sac fly to left to put the Gades in front 1-0.

After Winston-Salem tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, the Renegades went in front for good in the seventh when Spencer Henson drilled a three-run home run to left off Ty Madrigal. The blast was his sixth of the year, and was part of a 2-for-5 game for Henson, which included a home run and three RBIs.

Sweeney added a two-run single in the eighth off Luis Moncada to stretch the lead to 6-1.

Leif Strom and Jhonatan Muñoz combined to shut the door with two scoreless innings of work out of the bullpen to close out the victory.

The Renegades finish the first half of the season with a record of 34-32, 9.0 games behind the First Half North Division Champion Aberdeen IronBirds. Records are wiped clean to start the second half of the season, with the second half division champion meeting Aberdeen in the South Atlantic League Playoffs in September.

Hudson Valley continues its series with Winston-Salem and begins the second half Friday night at Truist Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45. The Renegades send RHP Beck Way (3-3, 4.29) to the mound, while the Dash counter with RHP Chase Solesky (3-5, 4.15).
