WAPPINGERS FALLS, N.Y. (August 11, 2022) — Hudson Valley Renegades pitching tallied 13 strikeouts in a 4-3 loss to the Aberdeen IronBirds on Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium.

Hudson Valley starter Blas Castaño battled through five innings, allowing two runs on three hits, walking one and striking out seven. Despite surrendering the lead in the seventh, Nelson Alvarez (5-2) fanned two. Nelvin Correa shined in relief, tossing 2.1 perfect innings with four strikeouts.

The Renegades plated two in the bottom of the first against Aberdeen starter Connor Gillispie. Trey Sweeney powered a solo homer to right and Jasson Domínguez walked, stole a base and scored on a wild pitch to give the Renegades a 2-0 lead.

The IronBirds leveled the score in the top of the fourth against Castaño. TT Bowens was hit by a pitch and Billy Cook followed with a doubled to place runners at second and third with no outs. Donta’ Williams singled to score Bowens, and Cook scored on a balk to tie the game at two.

Hudson Valley jumped back in front in the bottom of the fourth. With two outs, Eduardo Torrealba singled and raced home on a throwing error after a Sweeney single to put the Renegades back in front 3-2.

The IronBirds grabbed the lead with two timely hits off Alvarez in the top of the seventh. Wilkin Grullon knocked an RBI double and Davis Tavarez lined an RBI single to spot Aberdeen a 4-3 lead.

Houston Roth (8-3) earned the win, firing four stellar innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits, walking two and striking out four. Nick Richmond logged a scoreless eighth and Xavier Moore locked down his ninth save with a perfect ninth.

Hudson Valley continues its six-game series with the Aberdeen IronBirds on Friday night at Dutchess Stadium. RHP Josue Panacual (3-4, 5.24) takes the ball for the Renegades, while the IronBirds send LHP Cade Povich (7-8, 4.15) to the bump. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45.
