LAKEWOOD, N.J. (May 5, 2022) Behind big offensive performances from Trey Sweeney and Spencer Henson, the Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Jersey Shore BlueClaws 7-4 on Thursday night at ShoreTown Ballpark.

Hudson Valley took the lead in the top of the second on a three-run home run by Henson. The blast was his first of the year, and the first three-run home run of the year for the Renegades. He finished the night 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

In the bottom of the second, Jersey Shore struck for two runs against Beck Way to cut the lead down to 3-2. Those would be the only runs allowed by Way in the game, who completed 4.0 innings, yielding two runs on four hits, striking out three and not issuing a walk.

The Renegades added another tally in the top of the third when Tyler Hardman brought in a run with a groundout to extend the lead to 4-2. However, in the bottom of the fifth, the BlueClaws tied the game at 4-4 against Jhonatan Muñoz (1-0).

The game remained tied until the top of the eighth, when Henson singled with two outs and came home on a Sweeney double to give the Renegades a 5-4 lead. That was part of a huge day for Sweeney, who finished 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI.

In the top of the ninth, James Nelson ripped a two-run double to right of JP Woodward (2-2) to extend the lead to 7-4. That was more than Carson Coleman would need, setting down the BlueClaws 1-2-3 in the ninth to earn his fourth save of the season.

The Renegades continue their series with the BlueClaws Friday night at ShoreTown Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. with coverage beginning at 6:15 on the Renegades Baseball Network. The Renegades call on RHP Blas Castaño (0-2, 4.50) for the start, while the BlueClaws have tabbed RHP Ben Brown (0-1, 5.68) to open the contest.
