WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY -Hudson Valley Renegades starting pitcher tossed six innings of scoreless baseball, and catcher Chris Betts provided the big blow with a three-run homer as the Renegades defeated the Connecticut Tigers 6-0 Tuesday night from Dutchess Stadium. The game was called in the top of the eighth due to rain. The Renegades have outscored the Tigers 30-3 at Dutchess Stadium this season.
The Renegades got the ball rolling in the fourth. With two out and a runner at third, shortstop Ford Proctor lined an RBI single to left to give Hudson Valley the lead. After a single by centerfielder Tanner Dodson put runners at the corners, catcher Chris Betts landed the big blow with a three-run homer to right to give the Renegades a 4-0 lead. The dinger was Betts' team-leading fifth of the season.
Hudson Valley used the long ball again to add ot their lead in the fourth. This time, it was rightfielder Jake Stone belting his third round tripper of the year. The solo shot to right upped Hudson Valley's lead to 5-0. They would make it 6-0 in the fifth as Dodson singled in leftfielder Bryce Brown from third with a groundball to right.
The Tigers had a chance to get back into the game when they loaded the bases with one out in the sixth. However, catcher Gresuan Silverio grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning.
That was as much trouble as Campbell (3-1) would face as he tossed six scoreless innings en route to his third win of the season. The right-hander walked nobody and struck out six. The loss fell to Tigers starter Kirby Chance (1-1) who allowed six earned runs on seven hits over five innings. After striking out 12 in his last outing against Batavia, Chance did not strike out a single Renegades batter.
Hudson Valley had nine hits for the ballgame, including a 3-4 performance from Dodson who scored once and drove in another run. Second baseman Justin Bridgman chipped in by going 2-4 with two singles. Connecticut had five hits for the game, two of which came from centerfielder Eric De La Rosa.
The Renegades continue their three-game series with the Connecticut Tigers tomorrow at 7:05. Right-hander Easton McGee (3-1, 4.50 ERA) will toe the bump for Hudson Valley against fellow righty Carlos Guzman (1-1, 4.26 ERA).
