*WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (June 22, 2022) — *Matt Sauer was stellar on the mound again, leading the Hudson Valley Renegades to a 4-3 win over the Winston-Salem Dash on Wednesday night at Truist Stadium.

The right-hander fired six shutout innings, allowing only three hits, walking three and striking out six. Sauer (4-1) has lasted at least six innings in four of his last five starts, permitting one run or fewer in every such outing, dropping his ERA from 4.41 to 3.08 over that span.

Hudson Valley jumped on the board in the top of the second against Winston-Salem starter Garrett Schoenle (0-1). Carlos Narvaez launched a two-run homer to give the Renegades a 2-0 lead. The long ball was Narvaez’s fourth in his last five games and sixth overall this season.

The Renegades tacked on two more in the top of the fifth. Everson Pereira lined an RBI triple to center, scoring Cooper Bowman from first, and Tyler Hardman lifted a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0.

Nelson Alvarez tossed two hitless innings of relief, striking out one and walking one.

In the bottom of the ninth, Luis Mieses banged a two-run double and Tyler Osik floated a sacrifice fly off Ryan Miller to trim the deficit to 4-3, but Miller immediately recovered, freezing Ben Norman for a game-ending punchout.

Hudson Valley will continue its series with Winston-Salem tomorrow night at Truist Stadium. RHP Blas Castaño (1-5, 3.31) gets the nod for the Renegades, while RHP Cristian Mena (1-2, 2.68 – Low-A Kannapolis) makes his first start for the Dash. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Coverage begins on the Renegades Baseball Network at 6:45.
