Indy Rains On Omaha’s Parade, 4-3

INDIANAPOLIS – In a rain-shortened, five-inning contest on Thursday night, the Indianapolis Indians came back from a 3-1 deficit in the fifth inning to beat the Omaha Storm Chasers, 4-3. The game featured three separate rain delays for a total time of one hour and 40 minutes.

With one out in the bottom of the fifth, T.J. Rivera singled to right-center field to score Ethan Paul and Dee-Strange Gordon for the lead. With the rain escalating, Christian Bethancourt was picked off at first base to end the inning and, following a 38-minute delay, the game was called due to wet playing conditions.

Omaha (38-23) took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning with back-to-back doubles by Kyle Isbel and Jimmy Govern. Two frames later, after T.J. Rivera reached second base safely on a two-base fielding error by Edward Olivares in right field, Bligh Madris doubled to tie the game.

Facing a 3-1 deficit following two Storm Chaser runs scored off Shelby Miller (W, 1-0), Chris Sharpe and Ethan Paul each singled to put the tying runners on base. Strange-Gordon doubled to drive in Sharpe before Rivera sealed the Indianapolis (31-30) win. All three of the Indians fifth-inning runs came off Jace Vines (L, 3-4).

The five-inning game was the Indians seventh in Victory Field history and first at home since May 6, 2018 vs. Gwinnett.

The Indians and Omaha face off again tomorrow night for the first night of Victory Field’s 25th anniversary celebration weekend, presented by Meijer. RHP Beau Sulser (4-2, 3.02), who holds the second-best ERA among qualified pitchers in the Triple-A East, will face off against RHP Jackson Kowar (5-2, 2.25).
