INDIANAPOLIS - Jung Ho Kang laced a pair of late run-scoring singles, and Clay Holmes fired a career-high 7.1 innings of one-run ball as the Indians dropped visiting Norfolk on Tuesday night, 4-2. Indy trailed 1-0 going into the bottom of the sixth but rallied for its ninth win over its last 11 meetings with the Tides.

Indianapolis (37-31) leapfrogged Norfolk (36-31) in the International League Wild Card race by a half-game thanks to Holmes' arm and Kang's bat.
Trailing 1-0 into the sixth, Adam Frazier and Kang strung together a double and single against reliever Paul Fry (L, 0-1), summoned from the Tides bullpen after starter Yefry Ramírez tossed 5.1 two-hit frames. Kang's knock leveled the score at one, and Pablo Reyes followed a Jacob Stallings double in the seventh with a two-out single to right to give Indy its first lead.
Holmes and Tanner Anderson (H, 10) combined for a scoreless eighth, and Kang added insurance in the home half. Kevin Newman doubled and Frazier singled off Ryan Meisinger, setting up Kang's two-run single up the middle through a drawn-in infield.
Johnny Hellweg (S, 11) worked around a single, walk and hit batter in the ninth to earn the save.
Holmes (W, 6-3) won his fourth start in as many June outings with a season-high tying eight strikeouts on a season-high 100 pitches. The Tribe right-hander induced 12 groundouts and saw just five pitches leave the infield while he was on the mound.
Kang led the Indians with three hits and three RBI. The Tribe finished 4-for-6 with runners in scoring position after going just 5-for-29 over the weekend in Columbus.
The Indians and Tides play game two of their series Wednesday afternoon at The Vic. Right-hander Nick Kingham (3-1, 1.67) will oppose Norfolk righty Asher Wojciechowski (3-3, 4.09). First pitch is set for 1:35 p.m. ET.
