DURHAM, N.C. - Jake Bauers hit a leadoff home run in the second and Yonny Chirinos outdueled Tyler Glasnow as the Durham Bulls took a 2-0 series lead with a 2-0 shutout over the Indianapolis Indians on Thursday night. The Indians outhit the Bulls, 8-3, but bounced into three double plays and left eight runners on base in the defeat.

Bauers' blast came early on after Glasnow worked an 11-pitch first inning. He gave Durham (2-0) the lead for good in the second, crushing a 96-mph first-pitch offering to straightaway center. The home run snapped a 30 2/3 inning homer-free streak for Glasnow.
With the score still 1-0 into the eighth, Bauers flashed the leather in the top half before providing the Bulls with a huge insurance run in the bottom half.
Indianapolis (0-2) had the tying run at second base with two down, but Danny Ortiz had a base hit taken away on a tremendous diving stop by Bauers at first base, who then flipped to Jonny Venters covering at the bag for the final out. He carried that momentum to the plate, lining a run-scoring single to right off Jack Leathersich.
Diego Castillo struck out the side in the ninth on 13 pitches, bringing the 5,004 fans in attendance to their feet.
Indianapolis' (0-2) biggest threat came in the third. The Tribe loaded the bases as Kevin Newman reached on an infield single and Erich Weiss singled ahead of a four-pitch walk to Joey Terdoslavich, but Edwin Espinal grounded a 3-1 pitch to third that started a 5-4-3 inning-ending double play.
The Indians also bounced into double plays in the fifth and sixth to stall scoring opportunities.
Chirinos (1-0) beat Indy for the third time in as many starts this season, scattering seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts over seven frames. Glasnow (0-1) nearly matched him pitch-for-pitch, allowing one run on two hits in six innings of work.
The best-of-five series swings to Victory Field for Game 3 on Friday night. Right-hander Nick Kingham (9-6, 4.13) will start for the Tribe, opposite Bulls righty Burch Smith (2-1, 1.65). First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m., and the broadcast can be heard on FoxSports975.com.
