Indians & Pirates Sign PDC Extension

Teams Sign a Two-Year PDC Extension Through 2016

INDIANAPOLIS - The first-place Indianapolis Indians announced they have signed a two-year extension on their Player Development Contract (PDC) with the first-place Pittsburgh Pirates. The extended working agreement will run through the 2016 season.

"The Pirates leadership team of President Frank Coonelly, General Manager Neal Huntington, Assistant General Manager Kyle Stark and Director of Minor League Operations Larry Broadway has provided excellent leadership for the organization," said Indians Vice President & General Manager Cal Burleson. "Indians Manager Dean Treanor and his outstanding coaching staff have been great to work with and our players have performed extremely well. It has been exciting to see the Pirates become strong contenders for the postseason with former Indians like Andrew McCutchen, Pedro Alvarez, Starling Marte, Neil Walker, Tony Sanchez, Jordy Mercer, Gerrit Cole and many others playing such an important role."

Since the Indians began their affiliation with the Pirates in 2005, they have posted a 668-604 regular-season record as of August 12, including a phenomenal 352-289 mark at Victory Field. Indianapolis also currently holds a 10-game lead in the International League West Division, and with a playoff berth this season, the Tribe will have reached the postseason in four of the nine years of affiliation with Pittsburgh.

"We are looking forward to continuing our strong partnership with the Indianapolis Indians and the city of Indianapolis," Coonelly said. "Indianapolis is a Major League city and Victory Field is a great facility for our players to call home."

The first-place Indians are again enjoying another fantastic season as they pursue their second straight division title. The Tribe's parent team in Pittsburgh, whose active roster features 21 players that have spent time with Indianapolis, also sits atop their respective division while boasting the second-best record in all of Major League Baseball.

Fans can catch the Tribe in action when the team returns to Victory Field for a four-game homestand beginning Tuesday, Aug. 13. The upcoming series against division rival Columbus Clippers will be the last chance to see the Indians until they host their final four home games of the regular season from Aug. 26-27 and Aug. 30-31. Maryland Street) on Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
