Indians Board Announces Executive Changes
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Indians Board of Directors today announced changes at the organization's executive level. Bruce Schumacher is named Chairman of the Board & Chief Executive Officer. Randy Lewandowski becomes President & General Manager.
As part of these changes, Max Schumacher will relinquish his place as chairman and president to become Chairman Emeritus following his 60th season with the club. In this role, Schumacher will maintain his position on the finance committee and serve as host for his suite during games. He will maintain his office at Victory Field and be available to provide mentorship as a continuing asset for the organization.
"Randy and Bruce are very talented young men who have risen through Indians management ranks over the last several decades, with exceptional service, true to our culture and devotion to the community ownership," said Max Schumacher. "They will lead Indians baseball through a stable future, building on the success our baseball team has achieved for many years."
Bruce Schumacher previously served as vice president of corporate affairs. He first joined the organization in 1983 as ticket manager before transitioning to director of special projects - a role he held from 1986 to 2012 before assuming his most recent position. Born in Indianapolis and heavily involved in the local community, Schumacher is a member of the Metropolitan Development Commission and serves on the board of the Indianapolis Neighborhood Housing Partnership. Schumacher attended North Central High School and graduated from Indiana University with a degree in business management and administration in 1982. He and his wife, the former Jo Kussmaul, who works as nurse at IU Health, have three daughters, Rachel and twins Grace and Sara.
Reigning International League Executive of the Year Randy Lewandowski is set to begin his 24th season with the Indians and has served as the organization's general manager since October 2014. After beginning his career as a ticket office intern in 1994, Lewandowski has steadily risen through the ranks while holding the positions of assistant ticket manager, director of operations, and assistant general manager. A native of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Lewandowski graduated with a degree in business management from Anderson University in 1993. He was also four-year starter on the Ravens' baseball team, where he earned academic All-American honors as a first baseman and pitcher. Lewandowski resides in Carmel, Ind., with his wife, Christina and their two children, Alyssa and Sam.
Cal Burleson will transition to Senior Vice President - Community Affairs. Burleson previously functioned as vice president of baseball & administrative affairs. In his new role, he will expand on his work in relating Indians baseball to community leaders and organizations.
With the next generation of Indians leadership in place, the Tribe looks to maintain its position as one of downtown Indianapolis' premier summertime entertainment destinations and provider of affordable, memorable family fun.
