Seven Scoreless from Sadler Secures 7-2 Win
DURHAM, NC - Starter Casey Sadler tossed 7.0 scoreless innings of work, while outfielders Chris Dickerson and Jaff Decker each posted four-hit efforts to help the Indianapolis Indians (47-34) split their season series with the Durham Bulls (45-38) with a dominating 7-2 victory at Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Friday night.
Indianapolis once again started strong, with Michael Martinez scoring Robert Andino for the first time on the evening with an RBI single in the second inning. Indy's lead continued to expand in the fourth and fifth frames thanks to a pair of doubles from Andino and Decker respectively that gave the Tribe a commanding 3-0 lead.
Indy continued to pour it on just an inning later, as a three-run sixth inning put Durham permanently out of reach. Andino got on base once again with a leadoff single, and after a walk and Martinez sacrifice, came plateward on one of Dickerson's four hits. Hurting their own cause, Durham's intentional walk of Jaff Decker backfired after Jose Tabata was the victim of a hit-by-pitch and Matt Hague coaxed an RBI walk. When the sixth was all said and done Indy had burst out to an insurmountable 6-0 lead.
While Indy's offensive outburst gave Sadler plenty of offensive support, he would end up not needing it. The right hander turned in his eighth quality start of the season with seven dominant frames that lowered his ERA to the third best in the International League this season at 2.10.
Following Sadler, reliever Jhonathan Ramos worked two strong innings of relief to seal the Tribe victory.
After the dominant performance, the Indians will now head to Louisville for a two-game series beginning tomorrow at 6:05 P.M.
