Tribe Returns Field Staff for 2014

INDIANAPOLIS -- The back-to-back International League West Division champion Indianapolis Indians will return their field staff for the upcoming 2014 season. The Tribe's staff will be headlined by fourth-year Indians manager Dean Treanor and will also feature last season's pitching coach Tom Filer, hitting coach Mike Pagliarulo and trainer Bryan Housand.
 
"We are very pleased to have Dean Treanor, Tom Filer, Mike Pagliarulo and Bryan Housand returning to Indianapolis in 2014," Indians Vice President and General Manager Cal Burleson said. "All have contributed significantly to our success."
 
Treanor returns to the helm as just the eighth skipper in franchise history to manage the Tribe for four or more seasons. The San Luis Obispo, Calif. native notched his 200th Indians victory last year and currently ranks 11th among all-time Indianapolis managers with his overall record of 244-187. He is the only Indians manager to win back-to-back IL West Division crowns and will enter the 2014 season with the opportunity to become the first skipper in franchise history to win three consecutive division titles. 
 
"Dean has shown over the past three years that it is possible to win at the Triple-A level and develop players for the Pirates at the same," Burleson said. "He has accomplished this as our manager by instructing and insisting that our players strive to play the game the way it is supposed to be played."
 
Under Treanor's leadership, the Tribe has earned a playoff berth in each of the last two seasons after finishing first in the IL West during the 2012 and 2013 campaigns. In addition, Treanor and his staff saw 30 players wear both an Indians and Pirates uniform last year, with 10 making their Major League debuts. 
 
"Our back-to-back West Division titles and the large number of players that have advanced to Pittsburgh from Indianapolis bear witness to the success of Treanor's methods and to the disciplines that the Pirates have instituted throughout the organization," Burleson said.
 
Also returning to Indianapolis for the fourth consecutive campaign is pitching coach Filer, who led a dominant Indians pitching staff which ranked second in the league in ERA, innings pitched and WHIP in 2013. Filer also helped guide a starting rotation featuring the IL's top qualified ERA in left-hander Kris Johnson (2.39), and the league's strikeout leader in southpaw Andy Oliver (138).
 
Alongside Filer, hitting coach Pagliarulo will be back in Indianapolis after making his professional coaching debut with the Tribe last year. The 11-year Major League veteran is set to continue his instruction of the Indians' offense which saw its home run total jump from 91 to 105 during his first season on the Indians bench. Tribe batters also ranked first in the IL in doubles and second in triples with Pagliarulo on staff.
 
Rounding out the Indians staff is Tribe trainer Housand, who is returning to the Indians for his fourth year of service, new strength and conditioning coach Ricky White and this year's player coach Rudy Pena.
 
The Indianapolis Indians will kick off the 2014 season on April 3 at Columbus and return to Victory Field for their 2014 home opener on Thursday, April 10 at 7:05 p.m. vs. Toledo. For ticketing information visit IndyIndians.com.
