Quakes Make it Two Straight Over Sixers

Rancho Cucamonga, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino fell to the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 10-4 on Saturday night at LoanMart Field. After taking the first three games of the six-game set, the Sixers have now dropped two straight to the Quakes and fallen to 33-31) one game off Rancho’s pace atop Low-A West’s South Division.

Inland Empire did tally the first run of the game in the first when Jeremy Arocho walked and then stole second; Arocho moved to third on the errant attempt on him at second. He later came home on Jose Reyes’ RBI single against Kendall Williams (2-1). Williams then faced the minimum amount of 14 batters over the next 4.2IP en route to the win. The Quakes (34-30) took advantage of a struggling defense in the first scoring three times without a base hit. Inland Empire starter Julio Goff walked two batters and the Sixers made three errors to fall behind 3-0. The 66ers made another error in the second and another with no outs in the third and found themselves trailing 6-1 after three innings. Dating back to the Sixers’ four errors in the eighth inning of Friday’s loss, Inland Empire’s defense made nine errors in the span of recording nine outs. The Sixers got back into the game briefly in the sixth when Arocho singled and stole his second base of the game. He scored on Edwin Yon’s double to left for a 6-2 deficit. Jose Guzman then smoked a two-run shot to right, his fourth homer of the season, making a 6-4 game. The Quakes immediately regathered control of the contest in the bottom of the sixth loading the bases with no outs. Sam McWilliams brought home a run on a sac fly and then Jorvit Vivas smashed his ninth homer of the year, a three-run bash off Justin Courtney making it 10-4. Jhosua Alcantara did pitch a perfect eighth and ninth with one strikeout for Inland Empire. The Sixers have made ten errors in the last two games.
