San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino had a huge night at the plate from Catcher Franklin Navarro and strong mound-work from Adrian De Horta and Simon Mathews (3-3) topping Lancaster 7-3 at San Manuel Stadium on Tuesday. Navarro had three hits, three RBI and notched his first homer of the season in the opener of the three-game set and has hit safely in his last five plate appearances.
Inland Empire (55-54, 22-17) got on the board in the first when Julian Leon drilled a solo homer to left off JetHawks starter Matt Dennis (7-11). The 66ers struck again in the second when Navarro smoked a two-run shot off the video board in right-center for his first round-tripper of the year. Adrian De Horta started for Inland Empire and tossed four scoreless but the JetHawks (56-53, 23-16) tied the game in the fifth when Wes Rogers tagged a solo homer (6) making it 3-1. Rogers had already extended his hit streak to 15-games with a base hit earlier. Colton Welker extended his streak to 15-games as well later in the frame with a game-tying two-run double to center. The game remained tied until the seventh when Jonah Todd singled for the Sixers and Richie Fecteau drew a walk with one out. Navarro then lashed his third hit of the game to score Todd against Dennis and give the Sixers a 4-3 advantage. DJ Jenkins greeted Lancaster reliever Luis Pena with a RBI single and after a walk to Brandon Marsh, Connor Justus delivered a two-run single to make it 7-3. Mathews allowed three hits and a walk with one K in his four shutout frames. The 66ers finished the month of July with a record of 18-11 after opening the month 0-4.
The series continues Wednesday at 7:05 pm. The contest can be heard live at 66ers.com.
