San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino jumped on the San Jose Giants at San Manuel Stadium on Monday with a five-run first inning and coasted to an 8-3 victory. The 66ers improved to 5-3 versus the Giants on the year and are now 62-59 overall and 29-22 in the second half.
Inland Empire matched its biggest inning of the year with a five-run outburst in the first inning against Giants starter Mac Marshall (0-4). The lefty walked Brandon Marsh to lead off the inning. René Rivera then followed with a two-run shot to let field making it 2-0. Rivera, with the 66ers on an injury rehab assignment, homered for the second straight game. Marshall lasted just 0.2 innings and walked four batters before leaving the game with the bases loaded and two outs. Southpaw reliever Sandro Cabrera got ahead of Richie Fecteau 0-2 but the Sixers' third baseman ripped a bases-clearing triple to right to make it 5-0. It was Fecteau's team-best eighth triple of the year. Adrian De Horta started for the Sixers and allowed one run over 4.1 IP on six hits with no walks and seven Ks in a no-decsion. Eduardo Rivera (2-4) relieved him and earned the win with 1.2 innings of scoreless work. Isaac Mattson (SV, 2) tossed the final three frames versus San Jose (51-70, 17-34) as Sixers pitchers struck out 11 batters and walked three holding the Giants to 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Marsh added a single and a triple to his first inning walk while David MacKinnon also notched a multi-hit game for Inland Empire.
