Lancaster, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino got a two-homer night from third baseman Jordan Zimmerman and a trio of Sixers pitchers notched a league best ninth shutout in a 7-0 win over the Visalia Rawhide. The Sixers got a three-run homer from Catcher Julian Leon and won their third straight game after dropping the first two games of the Cal League's second half.
Zimmerman got the Sixers (36-39, 3-2) on the board in the first with a two-run homer to left against Visalia starter Emilio Vargas (6-2), who entered the game with a league best 1.04 ERA and had not allowed an earned run since May 25th. The 66ers made it 3-0 in the fifth when Jo Adell drilled a RBI single to left. Zimmerman dropped another tank to open the sixth, this time to dead center off Vargas, for a 4-0 Inland Empire lead. It was the Mesa, AZ native's seventh dinger of the year. Later in the frame, Leon struck for a three-run smash to left to make it 7-0. It was Leon's third homer of the year and his second hit of the day. Sean Isaac (2-0) tossed 5.0 innings for Inland Empire and held Visalia (40-35, 3-2) to just two hits while walking three and fanning six. Brett Hanewich tossed 2.2 no-hit innings walking one and striking out two. Marc Brakeman finished off the shutout with 1.1 IP giving up a hit and whiffing the final batter of the game. Adell extended his hit streak to seven games and notched his 11th multi-hit game. Pavin Smith had two of the Rawhide's three hits including his 11th double of the year.
