San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San dropped their second consecutive game to the Stockton Ports in a 7-5 loss on Saturday. The Sixers (17-19) brought the potential tying run to the plate in the ninth but could not overcome a Stockton (22-14) team that banged out 13 hits as well as being gifted nine walks and a hit batsman.
The Ports got an early run in the second on 2B Nate Mondou's RBI single against Inland Empire starter Nate Bertness (1-3). Stockton really got it rolling in in the top of the fourth when they batted around for five more runs for a 6-0 lead. Inland Empire touched Ports' starter Logan Shore (2-0) for two runs in the bottom of the fourth when Jahmai Jones was hit by a pitch and Jack Kruger then doubled him home. Jared Walsh followed with an RBI single to make it 6-2 but Shore then struck the next three batters out. Stockton got a run back in the fifth on Luke Perico's RBI single for a 7-2 advantage. In the bottom of the eighth the Sixers chiseled into the deficit against the Ports' pen. Brandon Sandoval singled to open the inning followed by a base hit for Luis Rengifo (extending his hit streak to ten-games). With one out Kruger walked and Walsh ripped a base-loaded liner to right that was lost in the lights for a two-run single. An error brought home another run to make it 7-5. In the ninth Rengifo singled against Stockton reliever Angel Duno with two outs and eventually moved to third base on defensive indifference and a wild pitch. Duno, however got Jones to fan on a nasty slider for the final out and secured his third save. Jonah Heim singled for Stockton to extend his hitting streak to a league-best 19-games.
