Vega's Grand Slam Soars Sixers Over Storm

San Bernardino, CA- The Inland Empire 66ers of San Bernardino set season-highs in runs scored and hits in a 9-3 victory over the Lake Elsinore Storm on Tuesday at San Manuel Stadium. Inland Empire also matched a season-best in homers (2), triples (2) and runs scored in an inning (6).

Lake Elsinore (28-28) scored first off IE starter Denny Brady (2-5) on an RBI single from Olivier Basabe in the second for a 1-0 lead. Brady ended up going 5.1 innings allowing three hits, one walk and six Ks. Inland Empire (23-34). The Sixers got to Padres MLB rehabber Dinelson Lamet (0-2) in the third as with the bases loaded Ryan Vega clubbed a grand slam to left for a 4-1 lead. It was Vega's first homer of the year and doubled his RBI total to eight. Inland Empire also go an RBI double from Zane Gurwitz and a run off an throwing error for the six run frame. Ryan Scott added to the lead when he took Javy Guerra (the former shortstop and top prospect for San Diego) deep in Guerra's first appearance as a pitcher for a two-run shot in the fourth. It was Scott's third homer in his last four games and fourth of the year; he had three career homers entering the season dating back to 2013. Orlando Martinez, activated of the Injured List on Tuesday, had three hits for the Sixers including triple.
