Former Wonders, 49ers RB Phillips to throw out first pitch before beginning NFL career

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 11, 2017) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators will not stiff-arm any fans that want to see former A.L. Brown Wonders and Charlotte 49ers running back Kalif Phillips throw out a first pitch on Thursday, July 20, before the Intimidators 7:05 p.m. game against the West Virginia Power. Phillips will be available to fans for pictures and autographs during the game, which will also be an Intimidators weekly Thirsty Thursday with discounted drinks throughout the night. Reserved tickets are only $10 on game day ($8 when purchased at least one day in advance).  

The former Wonders star was an instant force on the ground at Charlotte, helping the new football program hit the ground running in 2013. Phillips set 49ers school records for career rushing yards (4,020), touchdowns (43), rushing touchdowns (41), and 100-yard rushing games (15). The Charlotte back earned honorable mention All-Conference USA as a senior and second team All-Conference USA as a junior. As a senior at A.L. Brown in 2012, he led the Wonders to a 10-3 record while piling up more than 2,500 rushing yards in his high school career.  

The Green Back Packers signed Phillips as an undrafted rookie free agent in May. Packers training camp opens on July 27.
