Intimidators allow 16 hits in loss to Drive

GREENVILLE, S.C. (July 12, 2017) - The Greenville Drive scored eight runs over the first three innings en route to a 12-2 win over the Intimidators on Wednesday night at Fluor Field.   Kannapolis (8-12 Second Half, 47-41) allowed 16 hits, including seven doubles to the Southern Division First Half champions.


The Drive plated three in the second inning and five in the third to build an 8-0 lead. After the Intimidators put two runs on the board in the fifth inning, Greenville pulled away with three more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth.  


Luis Martinez (3-1) suffered the loss for Kannapolis, allowing seven runs (five earned) on eight hits over 2.0 innings, including the first four batters of the third inning. He walked three and struck out one. Jhonathan Diaz (3-3) notched the win for the Drive, limiting the Intimidators to two runs on seven hits over 5.0 innings of work.  


Micker Adolfo and Luis Gonzalez each finished 2-for-4 for the Intimidators, while first round pick Jake Burger went 1-for-3 with a double.  


Granger Studdard paced the Drive, going 4-for-5 at the plate with two doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored as five Greenville hitters enjoyed multi-hit games.


The Intimidators continue this 3-game series on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. against the Drive. The team returns to Kannapolis on July 19 for a 7-game home stand that features Star Wars Night with post-game fireworks on Saturday, July 22.
