Kubat joins Roman as late additions to 58th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game

Intimidators sending league-high 7 players to All-Star Game

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (June 13, 2017) - With two players recently added to the 58th Annual South Atlantic League All-Star Game, the Kannapolis Intimidators are now sending a league-best seven players to the league's mid-summer classic on June 20 at Spirit Communications Park in Columbia, S.C. Relief pitcher Kyle Kubat and infielder Mitch Roman will now join starting pitchers Jimmy Lambert and Alec Hansen, closer Mike Morrison, catcher Seby Zavala and center fielder Joel Booker. Roman will serve as the Northern Division team's starting shortstop in place of injured Hagerstown Suns infielder Carter Kieboom, while Kubat replaces Hagerstown's McKenzie Mills.  

Kubat, a left-handed pitcher, touts a 0.94 ERA (4 ER/38.1 IP) and a 3-2 record, allowing 24 hits and no homeruns while striking out 46 batters in 19 games (one start). The Omaha, Neb., native had a 10-game scoreless streak that spanned 20.2 innings, including the entire month of May (18.0 IP), from April 29 to June 1. Kubat has converted both of his save opportunities this season and has not allowed a run in 16 of his 19 appearances with Kannapolis. The White Sox acquired Kubat from the Royals in March. 

Roman, 22, is batting .276 (64-232) with seven doubles, one triple, one home run, 16 RBI, and 24 runs scored in 59 games through June 12. He enters the final week of the First Half ranking fifth in the league in both games played (59) and at-bats (232). The White Sox 12th round pick from the June 2016 First-Year Player Draft, Roman has punished left-handed pitching this season, batting .329 (23-70) against southpaws compared to .253 (41-162) against right-handers. He began the season as one of the South Atlantic League's top hitters, batting .350 (28-80) in 22 games in April.

The Intimidators are currently playing the 23rd season of professional baseball in Kannapolis and 17th season as a Chicago White Sox affiliate.
