KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 19, 2016) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A Affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted right-handed pitcher Taylore Cherry to Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem. Also on Tuesday, the Intimidators transferred second baseman Max Dutto to Advanced Rookie Great Falls, bringing the roster to 23. No corresponding moves have been announced at this time.
Cherry, 23, is 1-4 with a 2.42 ERA (12 ER/44.2 IP) and 51 strikeouts compared to only eight walks in 30 relief appearances for Kannapolis. The 6'9", 290-pound pitcher ranks third among South Atlantic League relievers in lowest walks/9 IP ratio at 1.41. He ranks tied for second in the SAL in games for a pitcher. The White Sox selected Cherry in the 32nd round of the June 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of UNC.
Dutto, 22, has played 19 games for the Intimidators since making his professional debut on June 18 with Kannapolis after being selected by the White Sox in the ninth round of the June 2016 First-Year Player Draft. Dutto is batting .218 (12-55) with two doubles, a triple, four RBI, and seven runs scored. Dutto finished his college career at Menlo College in 2016 following three seasons at Cal.
Cherry is the 14th Intimidators player to earn a promotion to Winston-Salem in 2016, joining Sean O'Connell (April 21), Louis Silverio (April 26), Danny Mendick (April 26 and June 27), Grant Massey (April 29), Cleuluis Rondon (May 8), Michael Suiter (May 24), Daniel Gonzalez (May 26), Tanner Banks (June 8), Ryan Riga (June 23), Yelmison Peralta (July 5), Drew Hasler (July 7), and All-Stars Zach Thompson (July 11) and Landon Lassiter (July 17).
The Intimidators have an off day on Tuesday before opening a 7-game road trip on Wednesday at 11:05 a.m. in Lakewood, N.J. to start a 3-game series against the BlueClaws at FirstEnergy Park. Kannapolis will send RHP Brannon Easterling (4-1, 2.48 ERA) to the mound against Lakewood's RHP Franklyn Kilome (2-7, 4.75 ERA) in the series opener. The Intimidators return to Kannapolis on Thursday, July 28, to open a 7-day home stand against the Grasshoppers and Charleston RiverDogs.
