Arrieta Joins Iowa Rotation

Albuquerque, NM - RH Jake Arrieta officially joins the Iowa Cubs today and will start tonight in Albuquerque for his Cubs' organizational debut. The Cubs acquired Arrieta along with RH Pedro Strop and two international signing bonus slots from the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday for RH Scott Feldman and C Steve Clevenger.

Arrieta was a member of the Orioles' Opening Day roster and was 1-2 with a 7.23 ERA (19ER/23.2IP) in five starts over three stints in the big leagues this season. He was 5-3 with a 4.41 ERA (24ER/49.0IP) in nine appearances (eight starts) with triple-A Norfolk.  

The Orioles drafted Arrieta in the fifth round of the 2007 draft out of Texas Christian University. He has spent at last part of each of the last four seasons in the big leagues and is 20-25 with a 5.46 ERA (217ER/358.0IP) in 69 career big league appearances (63 starts). He won 10 games with the Orioles in 2011.

Arrieta and the Cubs take on the Isotopes at 8:05 Central time at Isotopes Park. The 'Topes will start LH Jonathan Sanchez (1-0, 6.75). The game will be broadcast live on AM 940 and streamed live on with the pre-game show starting at 7:45.
