July 22, 2014

Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs have recalled RHP Kyle Hendricks. He will make his second major league start tonight against the San Diego Padres at Wrigley Field. The Cubs have also optioned LHP Zac Rosscup to Iowa.

Hendricks made his big league debut on July 10 in Cincinnati. He allowed four earned runs in six innings, and struck out seven. He didn't figure in the decision in the Cubs' 6-4 12-inning win.

The Dartmouth graduate has made 17 starts for Iowa this season. He has gone 10-5 with a 3.59 ERA (41 ER/102.2IP), and struck out 97 compared to only 27 walks. Hendricks is in a three-way tie for the PCL lead in victories, while his ERA ranks eighth.

Rosscup started the year in Iowa, but has had four stints with Chicago this season. He had no record, a 7.50 ERA (5ER/6IP), walked four and struck out 10 in seven appearances. The southpaw has registered a 2.61 ERA (6ER/20.2IP) with three saves over 20 appearances with Iowa this year.

The Cubs and Zephyrs play game two of their four-game series tonight at 7:05. RH Dallas Beeler (6-3, 3.56) takes the mound for the Cubs against LH Andrew Heaney (3-1, 4.25). The game will be broadcast at iowacubs.com and live on AM 940 with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45. This is the second game of a nine-game home stand over seven days for the Cubs.
