DES MOINES, Iowa - The Chicago Cubs today made a series of transactions affecting Iowa's active roster for tonight's game against Fresno. Infielder Tommy La Stella and left-handed pitcher Zac Rosscup have been recalled to the big leagues. In addition, outfielder Quintin Berry has signed a minor league deal with Chicago and has been assigned to Iowa.

La Stella, 26, was a member of Chicago's Opening Day roster but was placed on the disabled list on April 14. He saw action in two games with Chicago prior to his initial injury, going 1-for-6 (.167). He batted .250 (9-for-36) with three doubles and three RBI in 10 games covering a pair of rehab assignments with Double-A Tennessee before being activated from the disabled list and optioned to Iowa on August 11, where he has hit .333 (11-for-33) with one homer and six RBI in nine games. He hit safely in eight of nine games with the I-Cubs.

La Stella was acquired from Atlanta for pitcher Arodys Vizcaino on November 16.

Rosscup, 27, joins Chicago for the second time this season as he went 2-1 with a 4.30 ERA (11 ER/23.0 IP) in 26 relief appearances before being placed on the 15-day disabled list on June 17 with left shoulder inflammation. He was activated from the disabled list and optioned to Iowa on August 14. With Chicago, Rosscup has struck out 25 batters in 23.0 innings while limiting foes to a .241 batting average, including a .111 average (3-for-27) and .384 OPS by left-handed hitters.

Rosscup had no record with a 7.36 ERA (6ER/7.1IP) and 13 strikeouts in eight relief outings with Iowa this season.

Berry, 30, spent the entire season with Boston's Triple-A Pawtucket where he hit .228 (82-for-359) with four home runs and 36 RBI in 106 games before being granted his release on Aug. 21. Berry left the International League leading the circuit with 35 stolen bases.

The speedy outfielder has appeared in 117 career major league games between Detroit (2012), Boston (2013) and Baltimore (2014). Berry went 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts in the postseason to help the Red Sox win the 2013 World Series.

Iowa has now made a total of 185 player transactions this season, a franchise record. The previous record was 172 set in 2013.
