Sanchez to the Disabled List; Ha Joins Iowa

April 11, 2014

Memphis, TN - The Chicago Cubs have placed LH Jonathan Sanchez on the disabled list and assigned OF Jae-Hoon Ha to the Iowa Cubs. Ha will be in uniform and available for tonight's game against the Memphis Redbirds at Auto Zone Park in Memphis.

Sanchez is on the DL (effective April 10) due to left shoulder tendinitis. He has made just one appearance with Iowa this season. On April 4 against Memphis at Principal Park he allowed five runs in two-thirds of an inning while giving up just one hit. He walked three, hit a batter, and gave up a grand slam to Greg Garcia of the Redbirds. Sanchez signed with the Cubs as a minor league free agent on January 24.

Ha joins the I-Cubs from extended spring training today. He had off-season wrist surgery that caused him to miss most of spring training. Last year, Ha started the year with double-A Tennessee and hit .284 (27-for-95) with a homer and 14 RBI in 28 games. He was on the DL with a strained right oblique from May 5-June 19 before joining Iowa on June 22. He made his triple-A debut at Memphis that day and went on to hit .241 (55-for-228) with five home runs and 21 RBI in 62 games with Iowa to finish the season. The Cubs signed Ha as a non-drafted free agent on September 19, 2008. Baseball America rated him among the Cubs' top 20 prospects each of the last two seasons and he participated in the Sirius XM All-Star Futures Game in Kansas City in 2012.

The Cubs and Redbirds open a four-game series tonight at 7:05. LH Eric Jokisch (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Cubs against LH Tyler Lyons (0-0, 1.50) for the Redbirds. The game will be broadcast live on AM 940, and streamed live at iowacubs.com, with the On-Deck Circle Pre-Game Show starting at 6:45.
