Soler Named Cubs' Minor League Player of the Month for July

Des Moines, IA - The Chicago Cubs have named Iowa OF Jorge Soler the organizationʼs Minor League Player of the Month for July.

Soler combined to hit .406 (26-for-64) with eight home runs, 19 RBI, a .500 on-base percentage, an .891 slugging percentage and a 1.391 OPS in 24 July games between double-A Tennessee and Iowa after he was activated from the minor league disabled list on July 6 with a right hamstring strain. He had a career-high two home runs and five RBI on July 13 with Tennessee against Jacksonville.

The 22-year-old started the month with Tennessee and played in 15 games before getting promoted to Iowa on July 24. He has batted .243 (9-for-37) with four doubles, three home runs and nine RBI in 13 games to start his triple-A career.

This is Solerʼs first organizational award since signing a nine-year major league contract with the Cubs on June 30, 2012. The Cuban native entered the season as the fifth-best prospect in the Cubs organization according to Baseball America. Soler has combined to hit .307 (144-for-469) with 36 doubles, 23 home runs and 97 RBI in 131 minor league contests.

Single-A Kane County RHP Jen-Ho Tseng was named the organizationʼs Pitcher of the Month. He went 3-1 with a 1.47 ERA (5ER/30.2IP) in five July games (four starts) for Kane County.
