TONIGHT'S GAME: Iowa wraps its seven-game road trip with the series finale tonight against Oklahoma City. A win tonight would give Iowa a sweep at Bricktown for the first time since May 31-June 3, 2016 (3 gms). The I-Cubs have not swept a series overall since taking the final four games of the 2016 season from Colorado Springs Sept. 2-5 at Principal Park.
ROAD WARRIORS: Through 11 road games, the I-Cubs are batting .256 (94-for-367) with a .347 OBP and a .791 OPS. Conversely, Iowa is batting just .219 (39-for-178) in six home games with a .298 OBP and a .702 OPS. With 19 extra-base hits at Principal Park (11 2B, 2 3B and 6 HR), nearly 50 percent of the I-Cubs' 39 home hits have fallen for extra bases.
BLAST FROM THE PAST: Jim Adduci crushed a grand slam off Josh Smoker in the sixth inning yesterday. It was the first for an I-Cub since Chris Gimenez on Aug. 5, 2018 off Las Vegas' Buddy Baumann. The slam was Adduci's second as an I-Cub with his last coming on Aug. 14, 2010 off Fresno's Joe Patterson.
HOME RUN HAPPENINGS: Dixon Machado hit a no-doubt three-run homer in the ninth inning yesterday. Machado has muscled three home runs on the young season after hitting two in all of 2018 -- one with Triple-A Toledo and one with Detroit. Machado's career high is six, set in 2014 between Advanced-A Lakeland and Double-A Erie.
RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE: Iowa's 11 April victories are it's most in the month since going 14-9 in 2014. In the team's PCL history, Iowa has recorded 11+ wins in April 10 times.
AGAINST OKLAHOMA CITY: Iowa and Oklahoma City split a series 2-2 last time around at Principal Park. In this series at Bricktown, Iowa has outscored Oklahoma City 29-8 through the first three games.
HEATING UP: After hitting just .115 (3-for-26) with 11 strikeouts through seven games to start the season, outfielder Zach Borenstein is starting to lock in. Over his last five games, the outfielder is 7-for-14 with a home run, five runs batted in and two walks. He's also contributed two outfield assists. He's raised his season average to .250 with this performance.
KEEP IT CLEAN: Iowa is riding a season best four-game errorless streak. The I-Cubs have the fewest errors in the PCL with seven, while Sacramento tops the bunch with 25.
FEEL BETTER SOON: RHP Tony Barnette began a rehab assignment with the I-Cubs yesterday, working back from right shoulder soreness. The righty pitched 0.2 of an inning and allowed one run on one hit, one walk and one hit batter. Barnette was signed by the Cubs to a Major League contract this offseason.
SAVE THE DAY:Dakota Mekkes notched his team-leading third save of the season yesterday. It was Iowa's first save since April 14. With six saves on the season, the I-Cubs are still tied for the PCL lead with Fresno in this catagory.
SHORT HOPS: Iowa has scored first in a game six times this season, going 5-1 in those contests...The I-Cubs are 9-2 when scoring more than four runs...Dakota Mekkes has given up an earned run in three straight outings for the first time in his career.
