DES MOINES, IA – The Iowa Cubs (32-43) were shut out in the sixth and final game of the series against the Louisville Bats (30-47), losing 2-0, Sunday at Principal Park.

Another low-scoring game saw Louisville scratch across the first run in the top of the sixth inning, when Mike Moustakas and Jose Barrero hit back-to-back doubles. That was the only run the Bats would get off of Adrian Sampson, who made his first quality start since July 4 against Indianapolis.

Sampson spun six innings, allowing just one run on six hits and two walks, while striking out one. Louisville added a run in the following inning against Juan Gamez, who was making his Iowa Cubs debut. Gamez allowed a two-out RBI single to Narciso Crook, giving the Bats a 2-0 lead.

Iowa loaded the bases in the first inning, but was held hitless through the next five frames by Riley O'Brien, who walked one and struck out six along the way. Nick Howard, Dauri Moreta and Tony Santillan kept the I-Cubs off the board through the final three innings, finalizing their 2-0 win to split the series.

POSTGAME NOTES:

• After splitting the series 3-3 against the Bats, Iowa has now split their last two series against Columbus and Louisville.

Adrian Sampson made his third quality start of the year with Iowa, going six innings allowing just one earned run.

• Iowa registered just four hits for the second consecutive game, totaling two runs over their last 23 innings.

Juan Gamez made his Iowa Cubs debut in the seventh inning, allowing one run on two hits and a walk.

Iowa has the day off tomorrow and will continue their home stand on Tuesday, August 3, with a seven-game series against the Indianapolis Indians. First pitch for Tuesday’s game is set for 6:38 pm at Principal Park. For more information and tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
