The United States Citizenship and Immigration services, Des Moines Field Office, will be conducting drive-by ceremonies in the parking lot just north of Principal Park. The drive-by ceremonies are administrative ceremonies for applicants who are legal permanent residents of the United States to become United States Citizens. The administrative authority to naturalize a citizen lies within Des Moines Field Office. The drive-by ceremonies will be held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Thursday, June 22-25.

On Friday, June 26, The United States Citizenship and Immigration services, Des Moines Field Office, will hold a judicial ceremony with the Southern District of Iowa, Des Moines Federal court, on the field at Principal Park. There are applicants who wish to change their name during the naturalization process. Those that wish to change their name must go through the federal court to naturalize, so that the name change may be granted by the judge. Friday’s ceremony for 100 candidates — representing 33 different countries — will begin at 11 a.m.

The Iowa Cubs first hosted a citizenship ceremony in 2009. It is now an annual event, with 327 new citizens welcomed during the first 11 years.
