DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (17-29) scored four in the first inning and never stopped running as they sprinted to a 13-3 victory over the New Orleans Baby Cakes (23-25), Friday at Principal Park. The I-Cubs' 18 hits and 13 runs both matched season bests.

Iowa sent all nine batters to the plate in the first inning, running New Orleans starter Ben Meyer from the game after collecting just two outs. A four-run first was followed with a five-run second as Iowa's bats were on fire all night. Among starting position players, all eight reached base at least once.
Taylor Davis had a career night, going 4-for-5 to match a career high in hits while setting a new career best with six runs batted in. Efren Navarro was 4-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, four runs and one RBI. His four runs set a career high. Mark Zagunis also reached in all five plate appearances, going 2-for-2 with three walks.
Jen-Ho Tseng logged an unusual start, holding the Baby Cakes hitless through 4.2 innings. Both runs scores off Tseng came in the third without a hit as Tseng walked four in the inning to push in one run and allowed a sacrifice fly. The righty came away with a quality start, spinning six innings, and his second straight winning decision to improve to 2-4. Alberto Baldonado and Dillon Maples collaborated for a scoreless relief effort.
The I-Cubs and Baby Cakes play the second game of the series tomorrow at 7:08 with Fan Pre-Game Catch on the Field. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
