DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (34-59) earned their first shutout victory of the season with a 2-0 win over the Nashville Sounds (44-48), Sunday at Principal Park. The win gave Iowa a 3-2 series victory, its first at home since late-May.

DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (34-59) earned their first shutout victory of the season with a 2-0 win over the Nashville Sounds (44-48), Sunday at Principal Park. The win gave Iowa a 3-2 series victory, its first at home since late-May.

Trevor Clifton (1-1) carried the I-Cubs through 5.0 innings, allowing just two hits while walking two and fanning six. The performance gave the 23-year-old his first Triple-A victory.
Iowa cracked the scoreless game in the third inning, jumpstarted by a Jacob Hannemann one-out single - his first of two hits on the day. Hannemann swiped second and Iowa put a pair of runners on after Chris Coghlan walked. A wild pitch from James Naile moved the runners up before a Chesny Young groundout pushed in Hannemann from third.
Bijan Rademacher roped a two-out double in the fourth, leading to another run for the I-Cubs after a Ryan Court RBI single. That would wrap up the scoring for the day. Rademacher ended his day 2-for-3.
Brad Markey took over for Iowa in the sixth and allowed just three base runners via hits through 2.2 innings. Craig Brooks was the third pitcher of the game and logged three outs before Dillon Maples secured the final out to capture his sixth save of the season.
Iowa heads to Memphis for a four-game set beginning tomorrow with a 7:05 first pitch. Follow the action on AM 940, www.iowacubs.com or MiLB.TV.
