DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (65-65) improved to .500 on the season for the first time since April as they beat the Memphis Redbirds (84-48) 4-2 on Friday. Principal Park welcomed 13,249 fans, the second-largest crowd of 2017.

Iowa wasted no time, taking the lead for good in the second. Chris Dominguez led off the inning with a bomb to straightaway center field to break a scoreless game. Back-to-back doubles from Victor Caratini and Jacob Hannemann scored another, before Chesny Young hit into a fielder's choice to bring in the third run of the inning. Williams Pérez helped himself by moving the runner with a sacrifice bunt and John Andreoli came through with an RBI single to complete Iowa's scoring effort.
Perez worked through seven frames, matching his longest outing of the season. He gave up one run on three hits, walked three and fanned five. David Garner took the eighth, allowing a leadoff double before sitting down the next three batters in order. He served up a run in the ninth, but shut down the effort and came away with his second save as an I-Cub.
Iowa and Memphis meet again at Principal Park tomorrow at 7:08 p.m. Promotions include Pre-Game Catch on the Field and a postgame concert featuring Bob Dorr and the Blue Band. For more information or tickets, visit www.iowacubs.com.
