DES MOINES, IA -Daury Torrez's 4.2 innings of two earned runs on five hits was not enough to split the Saturday twinbill, as the Iowa Cubs (26-47) fell to Colorado Springs (40-33) 2-0 Saturday at Principal Park.

DES MOINES, IA -Daury Torrez's 4.2 innings of two earned runs on five hits was not enough to split the Saturday twinbill, as the Iowa Cubs (26-47) fell to Colorado Springs (40-33) 2-0 Saturday at Principal Park.

Tonight marked the I-Cubs' 23rd game of being held to two or fewer runs, and they are now 2-21 in the category. The shutout was the seventh on the season, as Cub bats stranded five and went 0-for-3 with runners in scoring position.
Ali Solis, Chesny Young and Mark Zagunis' one hit a-piece accounted for Iowa's three hits on the night. Solis and Young tallied a knock off former I-Cub Aaron Brooks, while Zagunis lined an infield single off Mike Zagurski.
Brooks cruised out of the gate, as he sat down five consecutive I-Cubs to open the game and retired four on strikeouts over four innings of work. The righty was stingy with contact, allowing just two hits as he powered through the Iowa lineup.
The strikeouts continued to plague Iowa's offense, as the first six bats notched at least one whiff apiece, compared to the two walks on the night.
The Sky Sox struck first, as Nate Orf doubled and was brought home in the next at-bat by a Jacob Nottingham single. The middle of the Colorado Springs lineup proved potent, as both three and four-hole Orf and Nottingham combined to drive in the two runs of the game. Orf led the Sox lineup going 2-for-2 with a run, double, RBI and walk.
Colorado Springs added an insurance run in the fifth, as Torrez loaded the bases before exiting after 4.2 innings of work. Lefty Alberto Baldonado walked in the second and final run of the seven-inning game in his only full frame of work.
Right-hander Dillon Maples entered in the seventh and recorded all three outs, striking out two and picking off Brett Phillips at second, who drew a walk.
Iowa's offense showed late life as Zagunis lined a two-out single off former I-Cub Andrés Blanco in the final frame, but was stranded at first as Zagurski sat down Young and pinch-hitter Taylor Davis to close out the game.
Iowa and Colorado Springs will conclude their five-game set Sunday, at 1:08 p.m.. Promotions include Kids Run the Bases, Pedal to the Park, Food Pantry, Knothole Gang and Family 4 Pack. For more information, visit www.iowacubs.com.
