TODAY'S GAME: A win in Sacramento today would give Iowa the series victory against the River Cats as the I-Cubs have taken the last two games in the set. Iowa would improve to 8-1-1 in road series with the win. RHP Colin Rea takes a 7-1 record into the contest as he makes his team-leading 14th start of the season.
STREAKING:Jim Adduci extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a 2-for-5 night to tie Donnie Dewees for the longest streak for an I-Cub in 2019. Adduci was red-hot prior to his first call-up with Chicago on May 27, then has continued his hitting streak since returning to Iowa on June 1. Over this stretch, he holds a .400 average (22-for-55) while clubbing five doubles, four homers and collecting 18 RBI.
HAVE A DAY:Erick Castillo's two-RBI double in the seventh last night was his first Triple-A extra-base hit. The catcher set a career high with three RBI and tied a career mark with three walks in the game.
KEEPING IT CLOSE: The I-Cubs have not had much room for error on this road trip, with four of the six games played thus far decided by one run. Iowa has a 13-9 record in one-run games this season, and Sunday's 1-0 victory was its first 1-0 shutout since the first game of a doubleheader with Oklahoma City on Aug. 29, 2018.
ROSTER ROTATION: Iowa is expected to add RHP Craig Kimbrel to the roster today. Chicago signed Kimbrel, 31, on June 7 to a three-year contract through 2021 with a vesting/club option for 2022. The seven-time All-Star has amassed 333 saves through nine major league seasons with Atlanta (2010-2014), San Diego (2015) and Boston (2016-18), capped by a World Series Championship with Boston last season. Kimbrel earned N.L. Rookie of the Year honors in 2011 as he logged his first of four-straight seasons as the N.L. league leader in saves.
AGAINST SACRAMENTO: Iowa won the only matchup with Sacramento three games to one in 2018, holding a 15-4 record in the last 18 contests between the clubs. The River Cats last series win against the I-Cubs was a 3-1 victory in June of 2014.
GET OUTTA MY YARD: Donnie Dewees clubbed a pinch-hit, two-run home run in the sixth inning last night. It was Iowa's first pinch-hit homer since Jacob Hannemann did it on April 16, 2018 at Memphis off Preston Guilmet.
BUH BYE BASEBALL:Trent Giambrone homered in the fourth inning to give him homers in four-consecutive games. The last Iowa Cub to homer in four-straight was Rubi Silva July 17-21, 2015. It is the longest home run streak in Giambrone's career.
MAJESTIC MILLS: Iowa starter Alec Mills had a rough start to 2019, but has been lights out in his last few starts to earn PCL Player of the Week honors. The award covers his last two outings, both quality starts. He allowed just two runs on seven hits in 12.2 innings on the hill, which amounts to a 1.42 ERA. Over his last four starts, he has three quality starts and has notched a 1.90 ERA.
NOT OVER UNDERWOOD: Duane Underwood Jr. put together another shutout outing out of the bullpen last night. Since transitioning to a relieving role in May, Underwood holds a 4.32 ERA (4ER/8.1IP) with five walks and 10 strikeouts coming out of the bullpen. Four of his six outings have been scoreless.
GET ON BASE: Iowa outfielder Mark Zagunis has been held hitless in back-to-back games, but has three walks to advance his on-base streak to all 12 games since being optioned to Iowa.
SHORT HOPS:Trevor Clifton took the win last night to snap a six-game losing skid...Iowa gave up six home runs last night. Entering the game, the club hadn't served up more than three homers in a game in 2019.
