Tyson Miller has been recalled by the Chicago Cubs and will serve as the club’s “29th” man in a doubleheader today against St. Louis. The right-hander has been tabbed as the Game 2 starter and will make his Major League debut when he takes the ball.

Miller, 25, spent the first half of 2019 with Double-A Tennessee, where he dominated the competition. A 2.56 ERA (25ER/88.0IP) and 80 strikeouts in 15 starts for the Smokies earned him a July promotion to Iowa.

Triple-A proved to be a challenge for the righty as his ERA soared to 10.07 (25ER/22.1IP) through his first six starts, but Miller began to find his footing late in the year. Through his last six starts of the season, including one playoff outing, Miller compiled a 5.28 clip (19ER/32.1IP) and an improved 4.05 mark (8ER/17.2IP) through his final three games.

Miller was selected by the Cubs in the fourth round of the 2016 draft out of California Baptist University and is 24-25 with a 4.05 ERA (186ER/413.0IP) through 74 starts and 85 total minor league games. He was added to the Cubs 40-man roster this offseason as protection from the Rule 5 Draft.
