Dear Fans and Friends,
Today was supposed to be a day of great celebration - the home opener at Principal Park for the 2020 baseball season. We've known for a few weeks now that our season wouldn't be starting on time, but that doesn't erase all the disappointment of reaching this milestone on the calendar today.
Looking ahead, we are still hopeful and intending on having a baseball season in 2020. The factors in determining when and how that would start remain out of our control. First and foremost, our government leaders and the CDC will do their best to determine when it is safe for us to gather in greater numbers again. When we reach that point, our partners at Major League Baseball will determine how much time they will need to prepare their players to compete. When this picture comes into focus, and a calendar of games is established, we anticipate ample time to communicate best options with ticket holders, sponsors and partners. In the meantime, we are still preparing Principal Park to ready for the fun and excitement of Iowa Cubs baseball. Our long-time guiding principles for the ballpark have been "clean, safe and fun" - and those remain our focus going forward.
We express our sympathy to the people who have lost loved ones to COVID-19, our encouragement to those that are battling it currently, our gratitude to doctors, nurses, first responders and front line workers for caring for those in need, and our appreciation to everyone doing all they can to contain the spread of this virus.
When the time is right, we look forward to seeing all of you at the ballpark again and sharing the joy of hearing two simple words - "Play Ball!"
