IronBirds Fall in 13 innings, 3-2

Staten Island, NY- The Aberdeen IronBirds fell in thirteen innings to the Staten Island Yankees, as Yeicok Calderon hit a game-winning RBI single to give the home team the 3-2 win.

The scoring got started in the fifth. Anthony Vega hit his first home run of the season out to right, and it gave the IronBirds a 1-0 lead. It would not last long.

The Yankees would take a 2-1 lead in the bottom half, as they scored two runs, taking advantage of two walks and a hit batter. The Yankees sent eight batters to the plate, and stranded the bases loaded.

The IronBirds would tie it in the eighth. Kris Richards extended his hitting streak to five games as he hit a double to deep center, scoring Jared Breen.

The score would remain tied at two until the 13th. The Yankees got the first two aboard, and, after a Kale Sumner line out to right field, Calderon hit the game winner to right center, scoring John Murphy, ending the four hour game.

Nick Cunningham takes the loss in his first appearance as an IronBird. Dillon McNamara gets the win and improves to 1-0. The rubber match of this three game set is tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. Austin Urban (0-1, 2.08) will go for the IronBirds, while the Yankees will counter will Rookie Davis (0-1, 4.50).
